Research and Teaching
OICH has is affiliated with the University of Ottawa. We provide thousands of hours of clinical placement to students in the health sciences each year. We also accept students from other Universities on occasion. OICH conducts research on health care and homelessness. Our research activities accord with the standards of the University of Ottawa in terms of ethical conduct and quality. We have an ongoing relationship with the Institute of Population Health, Centre for Evaluation and Research in the Community, and REACH3.
Education
In association with our partner organizations, Inner City Health has welcomed numerous learners from a wide variety of health related disciplines. At an undergraduate level, learners from physiotherapy, nursing and medicine frequently join us within the program from the University of Ottawa and other sites across the country. Post graduate resident trainees in medicine, training as specialists and family practitioners also work within the program and we have been fortunate to have other learners from different disciplines such as advanced practice nursing.
When attached to the program, those involved have learned not only the specifics of caring for homeless but have achieved a greater understanding of life on the streets and the challenges this presents.
